2008 Independent Auditor's Report
To the Board of Directors
Whitefish Lake Golf Club
Whitefish, Montana

We have audited the accompanying statement of assets, liabilities, and members' equity - income tax basis of Whitefish Lake Golf Club, Inc. (a Montana corporation) as of December 31, 2008, and the related statement of revenues, expenses and changes in members' equity - income tax basis and cash flows - income tax basis for the year then ended. These financial statements are the responsibility of the Company's management. Our responsibility is to express an opinion on these financial statements based on our audit.

We conducted our audit in accordance with auditing standards generally accepted in the United States of America. Those standards require that we plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements are free of material misstatement. An audit includes examining, on a test basis, evidence supporting the amounts and disclosures in he financial statements. An audit also includes assessing the accounting principles used and significant estimates made by management, as well as evaluating the overall financial statement presentation. We believe that our audit provides a reasonable basis for our opinion.

Tree Management Program
The Whitefish Lake Golf Club has launched a tree management program this year that is aimed at best locations, and species, of trees throughout the golf course. As part of the management program trees that create problems with establishing and maintaining quality turf may have to be removed or trimmed.

Some of you may have noticed the number of trees removed along holes number one and eighteen of the South Course in the past few weeks. The removed trees were nearly all Cottonwood trees that have increasingly created issues with turf quality and cart path surfaces. Cottonwoods produce a shallow root system, which run long distances at or near the surface. These roots create a safety issue for golfers that may hit them during their swing, which could lead to injured wrists or broken fingers. The roots have also greatly disrupted the surface of the cart paths in the area near the trees. The course has tried over the years to trim the roots and protect the turf and paths but this maintenance practice has not worked effectively. Read More...
